About Pine Township

Township Government is one of the oldest forms of government; dating back to the 17th-century.  There are 1006 townships in Indiana. Township Government is a "grassroots" form of government, often at the forefront of assisting residents in need.  Pine Township was created by the board of county commissioners in August 1853. It is one of twelve townships in Porter County. It lies in the northern part of the county and is bounded on the west by Westchester Township and south by Jackson Township.  As of the 2020 census, the population of Pine Township was 2,341.

Township Trustee is the township executive whose duties are specified in state law (IC 36-6-4). For Pine Township, the main responsibilities of the are administering fire protection, public assistance, and a cemetery. Township Boards are the legislative body of the township whose duties are also specified in state law (IC 36-6-6). For Pine Township, the primary responsibilities to oversee the township’s fiscal affairs.
